Aromatic Red Cedar Sample Box, Scent Blocks

Regular price $ 2000

If you have never smelled aromatic red cedar, this is the least expensive way to find out whether it works for you or not.

A sample box is a collection of offcuts from our production. You get the real scent, grain, and texture of the wood we mill. Many people keep the pieces in drawers, end tables, laundry rooms, small closets, or vehicles.

Please read before ordering. This product has free shipping to the lower 48 United States. This product is not intended to be functional or structural. The pieces are short, under 12 inches and most under 6 inches, and they are not meant to attach to or work with our organizers. Some pieces are unfinished and may not have a smooth surface. Some may include defects we removed from our regular product. Each box is assembled from whatever we are producing at the time, so the photographs show variety rather than the exact contents you will receive.

Sample boxes are sold as is. We cannot restock them, so we do not accept returns on samples.

Made in the USA. Milled in Kentucky from locally sourced aromatic red cedar.

Natural Wood & Quality Assurance

Cedar is a natural product and each piece carries its own unique character — slight variations in grain, color, and texture are part of what makes solid wood beautiful.

If you are hiring someone to install or doing it yourself, confirm all parts have been received and are in good order before starting the install or hiring help.

If anything doesn't meet your expectations, and is covered under our warranty, our customer support team will make it right. Replacements are handled quickly and we're easy to reach.

Design Help & Dimensions

Trims To Fit

All of our solid wood products can be trimmed to fit your space, including custom lengths and odd angles. Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  - Height: Any Open or Deluxe unit can be ordered as a half-unit at 42" tall (please contact us directly to order). Deluxe can be trimmed to fit. Please note that Open panels are not designed to be cut down.

  - Width: Most customers trim one side of a hanging kit to fit their space.

Example:
If you purchase a 6' wall kit, the total width of the assembled unit is 73.5" (the panels add 1.5" to the total). Once you assemble and place the center cubby and hang the first hanging kit, you can measure and cut the remaining 30" hanging kit to fit your exact space.

Modular

All of the closet products are designed to attach to each other to make one continuous closet. Hardware is included to attach units together as well and our instructions show common and by design installs.

Two major design limitations to consider:

1. 12.5" and 14.5" do not connect to each other

2. shoe racks, wine racks, and cubes are standalone products

FAQ: Compatibility

Why do some images show parts that are gray?

Parts shown in gray are intended to demonstrate how the product attaches to another unit. Any products shown in gray are not included with the main product.

What is the difference between 12.5" and 14.5" depth?

The 12.5" and 14.5" products are not compatible and are not designed to connect to each other.

We offer two separate closet depths, 14.5" for a standard closet and 12.5" for a narrow closet.

  • 14.5" is the depth of a Deluxe or Open 14.5" panel, shelves are 14" deep when not installed on a panel, and there must be at least 22.15" of total depth for a closet with hanging space if using a standard hanger.
  • 12.5" is the depth of a Deluxe 12.5" panel, shelves are 12" deep when not installed on a panel, and there must be at least 20.15" of total depth for a closet with hanging space if using a standard hanger.

What does Deluxe and Open mean?

We offer either the Deluxe or Open version for any 14.5" deep closet. Currently, we only offer the Deluxe version for 12.5" products.

In terms of functionality, Deluxe panels can be cut to fit the height of your space, whereas Open panels are not designed to be cut. Aside from that, the main difference is aesthetic and ventilation: the Deluxe is a solid panel, while the Open design allows for better air circulation.

Should I go with Solid or Ventilated shelves?

Both styles of shelving serve the same purpose and share the same dimensions. The ventilated style allows for more air circulation, while the solid style prevents small items from falling through.

FAQ: Tools and Install

What tools will I need?
Tools you'll need

These cover a typical install:

  • Safety glasses
  • Dust mask or respirator
  • Hammer
  • Level
  • Power drill or impact driver
  • Drill bits to fit your drill or driver (most installs need a 1/16" and a 1/8")
  • #2 square drive bit (an extended version makes things much easier)
  • Stud finder
  • Sandpaper (80 to 120 grit works well)
Tools you might need

Depending on your space and how much trimming you do:

  • A saw — any handsaw will do, but if you're comfortable with power tools, a table saw, circular saw, or miter saw makes clean work of it. You will need a miter saw that can slide and cut 12.5" or 14.5" inches.
  • An oscillating multi-tool — handy for a few quick cuts; a sharp blade glides right through cedar.
  • Step stool or short ladder (for upper shelves and hanging rods)
  • A couple of clamps (handy for steadying a panel solo or holding a piece while you cut)
  • Painter's tape (for marking stud lines on the wall, and a strip over a cut line cuts down on tear-out)
  • A small container or tray to keep your hardware from wandering off mid-project
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil, pen, or marker (pencil is best)
  • A square or ruler — or any straight edge for marking clean cut lines
  • Drywall anchors

None of this is exotic. If you've tackled a basic home project before, you already own most of it.

You can install this yourself - Show more...

Do I need to find studs?

Anchor into studs where you can for the strongest install — our hardware can mount either into studs or with drywall anchors where a stud isn't available. The instructions cover both.

How long does installation take?

2-3 hours on most single units - depends on prep-work, experience, and tools. If you have help, the time can be half that.

Plan for 6-8 hours or more if doing a full walk-in closet or tongue and groove.

Are the instructions available before I buy?

Absolutely, dimensions and instructions below:

Each sample will be of different size and length. The pictures of the product are intended to show a variety, you may or may not receive the sample in the picture.
