Aromatic Red Cedar Closet Hanging Kit, 24-60 Inch, 14.5 Inch Deep

Regular price $ 6058
Shelving Style: Solid Length: 24"

Two sections of hanging space in solid aromatic red cedar, in widths from 24 to 60 inches (2 to 5 feet). Most customers set one section as high hanging and one as low hanging. If you are adding two or more hanging sections to a closet, the double kit costs less than buying them separately due to shipping costs.

This is our standard 14.5 inch system, and it fits most closets. Hanging clothes need 22.15 inches from the back wall to the doors, since that is how far a shirt on a standard hanger reaches. If your closet is narrower than that, our 12.5 inch version is built for the space. The two depths are not compatible and do not connect to each other.

Depth depends on the use of a panel - if no panel is used the shelf depth is 14 inches, with a panel is 14.5 inches.

Our J-hook and rod design lets hangers glide past the hook rather than catch on it, so you can use the full length of the rod.

Made in the USA. Milled in Kentucky from locally sourced aromatic red cedar.

Design Help & Dimensions

Trims To Fit

All of our solid wood products can be trimmed to fit your space, including custom lengths and odd angles. Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  - Height: Any Open or Deluxe unit can be ordered as a half-unit at 42" tall (please contact us directly to order). Deluxe can be trimmed to fit. Please note that Open panels are not designed to be cut down.

  - Width: Most customers trim one side of a hanging kit to fit their space.

Example:
If you purchase a 6' wall kit, the total width of the assembled unit is 73.5" (the panels add 1.5" to the total). Once you assemble and place the center cubby and hang the first hanging kit, you can measure and cut the remaining 30" hanging kit to fit your exact space.

Modular

All of the closet products are designed to attach to each other to make one continuous closet. Hardware is included to attach units together as well and our instructions show common and by design installs.

Two major design limitations to consider:

1. 12.5" and 14.5" do not connect to each other

2. shoe racks, wine racks, and cubes are standalone products

FAQ: Compatibility

Why do some images show parts that are gray?

Parts shown in gray are intended to demonstrate how the product attaches to another unit. Any products shown in gray are not included with the main product.

What is the difference between 12.5" and 14.5" depth?

The 12.5" and 14.5" products are not compatible and are not designed to connect to each other.

We offer two separate closet depths, 14.5" for a standard closet and 12.5" for a narrow closet.

  • 14.5" is the depth of a Deluxe or Open 14.5" panel, shelves are 14" deep when not installed on a panel, and there must be at least 22.15" of total depth for a closet with hanging space if using a standard hanger.
  • 12.5" is the depth of a Deluxe 12.5" panel, shelves are 12" deep when not installed on a panel, and there must be at least 20.15" of total depth for a closet with hanging space if using a standard hanger.

What does Deluxe and Open mean?

We offer either the Deluxe or Open version for any 14.5" deep closet. Currently, we only offer the Deluxe version for 12.5" products.

In terms of functionality, Deluxe panels can be cut to fit the height of your space, whereas Open panels are not designed to be cut. Aside from that, the main difference is aesthetic and ventilation: the Deluxe is a solid panel, while the Open design allows for better air circulation.

Should I go with Solid or Ventilated shelves?

Both styles of shelving serve the same purpose and share the same dimensions. The ventilated style allows for more air circulation, while the solid style prevents small items from falling through.

FAQ: Tools and Install

What tools will I need?
Tools you'll need

These cover a typical install:

  • Safety glasses
  • Dust mask or respirator
  • Hammer
  • Level
  • Power drill or impact driver
  • Drill bits to fit your drill or driver (most installs need a 1/16" and a 1/8")
  • #2 square drive bit (an extended version makes things much easier)
  • Stud finder
  • Sandpaper (80 to 120 grit works well)
Tools you might need

Depending on your space and how much trimming you do:

  • A saw — any handsaw will do, but if you're comfortable with power tools, a table saw, circular saw, or miter saw makes clean work of it. You will need a miter saw that can slide and cut 12.5" or 14.5" inches.
  • An oscillating multi-tool — handy for a few quick cuts; a sharp blade glides right through cedar.
  • Step stool or short ladder (for upper shelves and hanging rods)
  • A couple of clamps (handy for steadying a panel solo or holding a piece while you cut)
  • Painter's tape (for marking stud lines on the wall, and a strip over a cut line cuts down on tear-out)
  • A small container or tray to keep your hardware from wandering off mid-project
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil, pen, or marker (pencil is best)
  • A square or ruler — or any straight edge for marking clean cut lines
  • Drywall anchors

None of this is exotic. If you've tackled a basic home project before, you already own most of it.

You can install this yourself - Show more...

Do I need to find studs?

Anchor into studs where you can for the strongest install — our hardware can mount either into studs or with drywall anchors where a stud isn't available. The instructions cover both.

How long does installation take?

2-3 hours on most single units - depends on prep-work, experience, and tools. If you have help, the time can be half that.

Plan for 6-8 hours or more if doing a full walk-in closet or tongue and groove.

Are the instructions available before I buy?

Absolutely, dimensions and instructions below:

Hanging kit

"Went together REAL easy! Looks and smells Great! Looking forward to adding more kits (cubby and shoe cubby)"

Clifford P. (5/5)

Nice system

"The hanging kit is a great upgrade to the rubberized metal system we’d been using. Looks nice, sturdy and smells wonderful. Though we are not “handy” we were able to customize and install with drill, anchors, screwdriver, mallet, measuring tape, and hand saw. (We did purchase a stud finder which is so handy). We appreciated the different options for configuration and created spaces for various items where more or less height was needed, improving the use of precious space on our closet."

We love our new closets!

"We redid 4 closets with hanging kits and cubbies and absolutely love the result! The customer service was excellent, the wood quality is great (a few pieces were slightly bowed but straightened out when hung) and the cedar smell is wonderful. It was quite an involved DIY project due to all the measuring, leveling, pre drilling and drilling that was necessary but the end product is completely worth it."

Q&A

Will shelves connect to both sides of one panel or do I need 2 panels together (one for each shelf)? I need two lengths of hanging kits to get from wall to wall and I don't want a cubby between them. So |=|=| or |=||=| where vertical lines are walls/panels and equal signs are hanging kits.
Hello Daniel, Yes our hanging kits do need to be supported by a wall, cubby unit, or cedar side panel on each end. If you want to use two hanging kits together with no cubby unit, you do need a side cedar panel in between them. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Best Regards, Rosetta NKC
Hello, on the hanging kits, where it states "X2" Does that mean i get 2 (top and bottom) ? So if its a 30inch wide, id actually get 60inch of hanging space?
Hello William, Thanks for taking interest in our cedar products. Yes our hanging kits come with 2 shelves, 2 closet rods, and hardware needed for which ever length you order. For example if you order a 30'' hanging kit you get high and low hanging a total of 60'' of hanging space. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Best Regards, Rosetta NKC
What is the turn around time from ordering to delivery?
Hello Bob, Thanks for taking interest in our cedar products. We are currently about two weeks out on shipping. We do keep you posted on the shipping status. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Best Regards, Rosetta NKC
I recently ordered a kit, I need an additional 12" shelf 60" in length. Is the 12 inch not available any more?
Hello Frank, Yes we still have the 12.5'' cedar products available. They can be found on our home page on the left hand side at the bottom. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Best Regards, Rosetta NKC
